A body of ceramic work capturing the textures, memories and fleeting moments of La Perouse.
Through a series of ceramic vessels intended to hold plants, Remy Pajaczkowski-Russell reflects on the relationship between landscape, flora and the everyday objects that shape how we live with our environment.
These works are decorated using an ancient slipware technique where liquid clay is applied to the ceramic surface to create imagery, pattern and texture. These layered surfaces echo the forms and rhythms of coastal plants, windswept vegetation and the shifting terrain that characterise the headland and surrounding bay.
Remy Pajaczkowski-Russell’s broader practice explores clay as a material that can hold memory and record place. Trained at the National Art School and later apprenticed in the historic French pottery village of La Borne, his work draws on traditional ceramic methods while responding to the landscapes and materials of contemporary Australia.
Moments of the Bay is a quiet love letter to La Perouse, an area made powerful through its natural environment and the communities who continue to shape its identity.
