Activity

Between 10.30am - 2pm join Sisters Akousmatica for this immersive radio and sound workshop where you will tune into the invisible world of electromagnetic waves and transform sound into story.

Participants will be guided through a series of creative exercises, including active listening exercises, hands-on experimentation with found sound objects, and collaborative field recording.  The session culminates in the construction of miniature rafts crafted from recycled materials and fitted with small radio transmitters, transforming each work into a floating vessel for sound, story, and connection.

Sisters Akousmatica (Julia Drouhin and Pip Stafford, based in Hobart) is dedicated to exploring sound and radio art through collaborative projects with a focus on amplifying women's voices in experimental sound practices. In 2024, they produced ‘Border Radio’ at the leading program for radio art in New York at Wave Farm. Their installation ‘Rising’ was a finalist in the 2019 Women's Art Prize Tasmania. They have worked with the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, MONA and Moonah Arts Centre, among others.
