Experience Adrian Mok’s striking installation as his makeshift shrines transform the La Perouse Museum.
A continuation of his Taoist ‘neo-worship’ series, The Quiet We Bow To contemplates the evolution of worship and imagines a neo-spiritual practice in the age of AI. Drawing on Taoist house shrines often found in Hong Kong, Mok’s installations blend found objects, 3D printed sculptural forms and sound. Drawing on the architecture of the Cable Station, the Museum’s Community Galleries will be transformed into a speculative space of worship, where religious iconography from diverse belief systems coexist – humorously incongruous yet unexpectedly harmonious.
Adrian Mok is a Hong Kong-born Australian artist based on unceded Bidjigal land. Having relocated to Australia as a child, Mok’s distance from his birthplace led him to explore Chinese cultural heritage from a diaspora perspective, reconnecting with his cultural identity. Through installation, Adrian recontextualises various facets of Chinese culture toward a speculative future.
